The Basque TV channel Euskal Irrati Telebista (EiTB, Basque Radio-television, Basque Country’s public broadcast service) included a news report about the innovative aspects of the EXAM 4.0 project on 5 and 6 December 2020 (channels 1 and 2, respectively). The report features An interview with Iñigo Araiztegui (EXAM 4.0 coordinator, TKNIKA), who pointed out that the advanced manufacturing sector “is very relevant at European level, since it accounts for millions of jobs, companies and euros.” More than 20% of the Basque GDP refers to the industrial sector; therefore, keeping the industry’s competitiveness is essential. EXAM 4.0 aims at stakeholder cooperation within the advanced manufacturing sector to “identify and anticipate the sector’s training needs, as well as the region’s priorities in order to develop research and innovation projects,” added Mr. Araiztegui.
The Miguel Altuna VET centre was highlighted as an example of innovation, having developed an advanced manufacturing laboratory within their premises. Unai Ziarsolo (project manager at Miguel Altuna) stated that this laboratory is adapted to the digital transformations that are taking place within the industry. In the context of EXAM 4.0, he pointed that “the comparison of our workshops with other centres in Europe is essential to reach a common understanding of how advanced manufacturing laboratories should look like.”
